Audible Earns LEED Certification for Adaptive Reuse of Historic Church

Audible has achieved LEED Operations and Maintenance certification for its Innovation Cathedral office space, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability. The 80,000 square foot hub is housed in a restored century-old church in Newark, NJ.
Through restoration and thoughtful updates focused on well-being and resource efficiency, the landmark now consumes 32% less water and 10% less energy compared to a typical new office. Two-thirds of occupants and visitors use emission-free transportation options.

The revitalized church also provides ample natural light and ventilation critical for health and well-being. According to Audible's facilities leadership, "This adaptive reuse project shows how historic preservation can go hand-in-hand with creating a healthy, modern workplace. The certification reflects our ongoing efforts towards sustainability and employee well-being while preserving Newark’s cultural heritage."
The LEED O+M certification validates the sustainable operations and maintenance practices in place at the Innovation Cathedral. Audible's reimagination of this Newark landmark sets a standard for historic renewal projects focused on efficiency, employee well-being and heritage preservation.

Audible Epics: Lydia Diaz Reflects on 20 Years of Growth, Storytelling and Tech at Audible
When Lydia Diaz started working at Audible in 2005 as a customer care representative, “it was much smaller,” she says. “Maybe 20 people” were on her team. Back then, Audible’s offices occupied just two floors in Wayne, New Jersey, with tech, leadership and customer service all sitting near each other. Even as the company has grown—filling offices in Newark and around the world—Lydia says her team’s mission has stayed the same: to spread the joy of storytelling and make it easy to listen, no matter what you’re doing.
