ABOUT THIS ROLE
As the Senior Director of Software Development for Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX) and Los Angeles Site Lead, you will guide the technology organization to elevate the ACX platform globally. In this essential leadership role, you’ll build a skilled team devoted to rapidly delivering innovative systems that serve creative partners worldwide.

Collaborating with cross-functional leaders across regions, you’ll shape a technical vision and roadmap to transform the ACX experience at scale. Instilling engineering best practices for excellence and speed will be critical. Key priorities include spurring innovation, attracting and retaining expert talent, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and fostering a thriving LA Hub. With the customer journey and significant business growth top of mind, you’ll steer complex initiatives and motivate your reports to embody Audible’s people-first ethos. As a Senior Director, Software Development, you will…
- Manage the complete software development lifecycle in an Agile environment, from definition to testing of new features
- Take responsibility for all aspects of software development, including operational metrics and support for your team's software
- Define, manage, and improve software and product development processes, collaborating closely with high-performance engineers
- Lead day-to-day activities of the engineering team, ensuring project plans and commitments are met
- Coach and mentor high-performing architects and engineers, fostering their growth, knowledge, and ability to deliver, while promoting a high-growth and inclusive culture
- Architect and develop innovative technical designs aligned with product line goals
- Drive operational excellence for your team, creating and monitoring metrics and alarms for continuous process improvement
- Actively build talent and teams by hiring, coaching, and mentoring engineers
- Collaborate with senior leaders and cross-functional teams to create customer-delighting software and foster innovation

Basic Qualifications

- 10+ years of industry experience in software development
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience in object-oriented design, coding and highly scalable, available and low latency web services
- 5+ years of experience driving new feature prioritization, development, and delivery
- 5+ years of experience managing software engineering teams and developing technical direct reports (performance review communication, accountability, motivation/engagement)

Preferred Qualifications

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences
- Experience building and architecting on AWS
- Experience being a manager of managers, growing managers to scale with the needs of the organization and working through others to accomplish the day-to-day work of the organization
- Demonstrated ability to make things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Experience defining and championing best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $198,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $342,300/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
